    The White Rose

    July 16, 2010 / No Comments

[Day 16 of 30]: So, I finally got up the nerve to write a sex scene.  Yes, my dear adult readers, this scene has sex…. but…. I don’t have the guts to post it, not all of it anyway.  My apologies.  But, I promise that when I finally finish this story, I will include a link to the entire file & you can read all the lovely naughty bits that I’ve left out.  Cross my heart. In the meantime, it was extremely freeing to write this love scene.  I wanted to show the instant rapport that my two main characters have with each other (due to their magical and mysterious…

[Day 15 of 30]: Its funny when the characters start talking to you.  its funny when it feels like they are telling you the story through some weird form of telepathy.   I love the feeling of writing in a deep and engaging flow when words practically sparkle off the page.  But it is weird to hear somebody else’s voice in my head as each character tries to tell me something new about my story, something I didn’t know a minute before I wrote it. I intend to cultivate and keep this feeling for as long as possible.  I intend to keep challenging myself to write every day no matter…

    Tooth and Nail

    July 14, 2010 / No Comments

[Day 14 of 30]: I’m working with a little family dynamics 101 in my writing today.  It was fun imagining what having a brother would be like… and what sort of things brothers and sisters fight about.  I’m pretty exhausted from writing every day, but proud of my progress.  And my MUSE seems much happier now that I have allocated special time just for her. I can definitely see that I’ve got lots of interesting scene ideas — well, I think they are interesting anyway 🙂  And I’m going to have to take some time very soon to rewrite the entire plot outline for this story.  I’m enjoying the paranormal…

    Hit and Run

    July 13, 2010 / No Comments

[Day 13 of 30]: The words are still coming in pieces.  And they are coming slower.  But at least they keep coming.  As I write, the storyline seems to change.  I look back on my old outline and I know I have to redo it.  I know that many of the scenes don’t make sense anymore.  They are wasted baggage that I’ve got to toss.  But it’s hard to let go of my first thoughts.  They were shiny and new and I’m afraid that I won’t get something better. But this challenge is all about working with my fears and anxiety.  Writing isn’t easy and writing every day is hard…

    Candy Bar

    July 12, 2010 / 2 Comments

[Day 12 of 30]: The good news is that it’s day 12 and I’m still writing.  The great news is that I’ve got some more scenes from the Shattered Souls storyline.  The bad news is that it’s totally out of order from the previous two posts.  However, word are words.  Writing is writing.  And right now, I’m happy that my MUSE is producing something with details, plot, characters, action, and just a little humor. Today’s post is what Holly Lisle calls a candybar scene.  A scene you can’t wait to write.  Something that makes your creative juices flow.  I was dying to see how the first confrontation between Marcus’s new…

    What’s In The Box?

    July 11, 2010 / No Comments

[Day 11 of 30]: For today’s writing prompt, I took something extremely simple and modified it for my purposes. I wanted to experiment with the emotions of an inanimate object.  I wanted to consider how it would feel about it’s creation, shape, decoration, and purpose in life.  I wanted to take something very simple and follow it through without letting the inner critic a chance to comment.  My MUSE was interested in the challenge but I had difficulty building enough conflict to create a life from the lifeless. Although, this isn’t my favorite piece of writing, I am happy with how simple it was to fall into the character.   Again,…

    Boy Meets Girl

    July 10, 2010 / 2 Comments

[Day 10 of 30]: It seems my Muse and I have a bit more to write about along yesterday’s Elemental storyline.  When I started to read through yesterday’s post, as a warmup to today’s writing session, I felt there was so much more left to discuss between these two characters.  I really wanted to see how a Boy Meets Girl scenario played out when one person was already hopelessly in love with the other. I’m very intrigued by the idea of magic based on the 5 Chinese Medicine Elements (Earth, Metal, Water, Wood, Fire) and I feel my Muse get excited with the chance to explore this alternate mystical theory.…

    Where Am I?

    July 9, 2010 / No Comments

[Day 9 of 30]: Today’s writing is a little more refined, simply because my Daemon editor was in full swing the last few days. This is part of story that I’ve been working on for some time.  Okay, not exactly working on…. more like letting it fester in my mind until I finally forced myself to sit down (thank goodness for 30 days of writing). There’s more coming from this storyline, although I’m not sure how far I can take it.  I hit a serious block when I was trying to map out the plot, so we’ll see if I can follow it through the end.  Or if I’ve got…

    Talk To The Block

    July 8, 2010 / No Comments

[Day 8 of 30]: It seems that I’m having some serious difficulties with Writer’s Block today.  So I decided to take the advice of the awesome Pirate Queen Havi and imagine myself talking to my Writer’s Block.  Maybe it can tell me why I’ve been procrastinating all day today and torturing myself with my lack of quality writing output.  By talking to my Writer’s Block and asking it (meaning my subconscious mind) for help, I might actually learn a few things about what’s going on in my cluttered writers brain.  Havi calls it getting Hot Buttered Epiphanies, so bring on the popcorn. So for today’s writing prompt, I used a…

    A Lesson in Failure

    July 7, 2010 / No Comments

[Day 7 of 30]: Everyday is a fresh start or at least I hope it is; because today’s writing sucked.  It sucked hard.  It sucked so bad, I don’t even want to post anything that I wrote.  My Inner Critic is having a field day, ripping the results of today’s attempt to shreds and I hate to give it more timber for the fire.  On the good side, I wrote.  I tried.  I took a prompt and gave it my best shot.  On the bad side, it was awful, dreadful, boring, and trite. Instead of letting myself feel embarrassed, I’m going to just be happy that I wrote something.  I’m…
